How to position your company for these subcontracting opportunities

Preparing early is key to successfully participating in these large-scale projects. The following steps can help position your business for subcontracting opportunities:

Identify Prime Contractors – Research large firms that are likely to bid on these projects. These prime contractors will be responsible for assembling subcontractor teams.

Connect with Small Business Contacts – Many prime contractors have Small Business Specialists or Community Relations Managers. Identify these contacts and begin building relationships early.

Complete Prequalification Requirements – Prime contractors often require subcontractors to complete prequalification applications. Starting this process early can give your business a competitive advantage.

Build Relationships Early – Engaging with Primes before they even start working on the solicitation gives you an edge against other firms. Remember, relationships are always going to be a key factor in the subcontracting space because Primes need to feel confident in who they subcontract with. The sooner you start building relationships, the easier it will be for them to select your company when they are awarded a mega project.”

Engage with Project Teams – Reach out to estimators and small business representatives to understand whether your products or services will be needed.

Large infrastructure and development projects create long-term opportunities, but success often depends on preparation and relationship-building well in advance of contract awards. By identifying key players, completing required registrations, and actively engaging with prime contractors, your business can be better positioned to compete for subcontracting work.
