Driven by a deep passion for storytelling, Doug Birnbaum founded Branded Content Media to help mission-driven organizations connect with their audiences. With over 15 years of helping clients communicate through powerful visuals, Branded Content Media was thriving. However, when COVID-19 hit, nearly everything slowed down, including production work. Now with a bit of extra free time, Doug began exploring other business opportunities and was referred to Norcal APEX Accelerator through his SCORE mentor. Challenges
Like many small businesses, Branded Content Media found government contracting confusing at first. They were not sure what registrations they would need, what certifications they qualify for, what agencies they want to sell to, or even how to read the jargon-heavy Request for Proposals. Beyond these hard skills, they also needed to learn how to navigate the complexities of contracting like building relationships with government buyers and position the business to be competitive in public procurement. Once they connected with their Procurement Specialist, Branded Content Media began making their plan.

They tackled the Cal eProcure and SAM registrations, alongside a few local government registrations while learning about the best marketing practices for government contractors. Branded Content Media built a strategic marketing plan, including a refined capabilities statement, elevator pitch, and communication strategy to build relationships with buyers from the agencies they wanted to work with.
