Local Contracting

Selling to local cities and counties is a great way to get your feet wet!

Gain experience with government contracting by starting with your local city and county government. Generally speaking, the scopes of work and administrative burdens on new bidders are lesser than with federal contracts. You will need to register individually with each local agency to receive notifications and to respond to new bid opportunities. Solicitations are generally posted publicly on each agency’ website.

In many counties and cities there are local business preferences (for example, LBE certifications), so look in your county and city first. Also, check to see if they accept the State of California small business certifications.

You can usually identify a city’s purchasing website by entering into your web search engine:

City of [Name of City] purchasing” or “City of [Name of City] procurement

For example, search for “City of Oakland procurement” and the second result is their list of open RFP’s.

Below are links to purchasing websites for the counties and many cities within our service area. The city procurement sites within our service area are too numerous to list them all, but we have a selection of procurement sites within our service area below.
