December 2022: Doing Business with the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA)

View Presentation Slides Here

The Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) is a Federal Research & Development (R&D) laboratory facility established in March 1997 by the Deputy Secretary of Defense as the Department of Defense (DoD) Center for microelectronics technology, acquisition, transformation, and support. DMEA is the DoD’s leading authority on microelectronics and executes its mission to provide vital parts and services in innovative ways to meet the needs of the DoD and enable the Warfighter.

DMEA purchases research & development/technology; engineering and other technical consulting services; electronics and semiconductor related device manufacturing; software, software maintenance, & licenses; laboratory, scanner, test, & x-ray equipment; and facilities support services: landscape maintenance, janitorial, security, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, painting, etc.

DMEA also participates in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs, which are highly competitive awards-based programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) with the potential for commercialization. Small businesses that provide the products and services that DMEA procures and are interested in its SBIR/STTR Program are encouraged to attend this one-hour workshop to learn more about DMEA and how to do business with them.

Defense Microelectronics Activity

The Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) is a Center for Industrial Technical Excellence (CITE). Microelectronics is a critical mission area enabling many of key weapons systems for the Department of Defense. This CITE designation recognizes the important role that the DMEA plays in upgrading and sustaining critical warfighting capabilities. DMEA is our DoD leader with core competency in microelectronics. DMEA as a CITE allows greater utilization of its unique capability to support small runs of DoD-critical microelectronics and semiconductors both inside and outside DoD. The CITE designation also allows the use of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). PPP provides excellent opportunities to promote partnering agreements between depots/arsenals and private industry.
